Type BS shaft seals, manufactured in accordance with DIN 3760-BS, are radial sealing elements for rotating shafts. They feature an exposed metal outer casing, a primary sealing lip made of elastomeric rubber reinforced with a helical tension spring to maintain constant contact with the shaft, and a secondary dust lip without a spring that acts as an additional barrier against the ingress of dust, dirt, or external splashes. This dual-lip design offers enhanced internal and external protection, making it particularly suitable for environments with moderate contamination or the presence of airborne particles. The metal casing ensures a secure and precise fit in machined housings.
Within the BS seal range, various lip design variants are available, including the standard type (TB), semi-rubber-coated outer casing (TBC), same with a grooved finish (TBG), partially rubber-coated inner casing (TM), fully rubber-coated version (TZ), and even options with special anti-corrosion treatment (TB-H), among others. Additionally, some models feature helix-shaped grooves on the sealing lip, designed to support specific shaft rotation directions: ‘L’ for left-hand rotation, ‘R’ for right-hand rotation, and ‘W’ for bidirectional applications.
