Piston seal UOR

Description

The UOR is a one-piece single-acting piston seal with a U-profile and asymmetrical sealing lips. The outer lip, shorter than the inner one, bears against the cylinder wall, while the long lip seats on the groove bottom. The fluid pressure opens the lips and reinforces the seal, so that sealing performance increases with pressure and the seal works with a very thin oil film.

Assembly

Installation is carried out in an open piston groove, or in a closed groove within the permissible minimum diameters. Chamfer the groove edges and clean the groove before fitting. Use soft tooling without sharp edges and do not drag the seal over sharp edges or threads. Check that the lip faces the pressure side and lubricate the seal with the system oil before installation.

Materials

The standard compound is NBR, although it can also be manufactured in other elastomers such as EPDM, FKM, FFKM, NR, CR, VMQ and PTFE, in hardnesses between 80 and 95 Shore A. NBR withstands mineral oils, greases and HL and HLP hydraulic fluids. EPDM is recommended for hot water, steam and brake fluids, FKM and FFKM for high temperatures and chemical aggressiveness, NR and CR for general service and good abrasion resistance, VMQ for extreme temperatures and food applications, and PTFE for the most aggressive media and the lowest friction.
