Symmetrical seal UP1

Description

The UP1 is a symmetrical single-acting U-shaped seal with a compact design, a recessed sealing lip and a fabric-reinforced back. Thanks to its reversible geometry it can be fitted as a rod or piston seal. The fabric reinforcement prevents gap extrusion and reduces friction, allowing it to provide excellent sealing even at low pressures and to work reliably against pressure peaks.

Assembly

Fit in an axially open groove. Chamfer and deburr the edges of the housing and of the rod or piston, and clean the housing thoroughly before installation. Do not pull the seal over sharp edges, threads or keyways, using a mounting sleeve if necessary. Heating the seal in oil at 80 °C makes fitting easier, and the space between the sealing lips can be filled with approximately 40 % grease.

Materials

Available in different compounds depending on the fluid and the working temperature: NBR, EPDM, FKM, FFKM, NR, CR, VMQ in hardnesses between 70 and 90 Shore A. PTFE in a hardness of 60 Shore D. All of them feature a reinforcement ring made of cotton fabric that provides resistance to extrusion. It offers good performance against hydraulic oils to DIN 51524 parts 1 to 3, mineral-based lubricating oils and greases, and HFA, HFB and HFC fire-resistant hydraulic fluids to VDMA 24317.
